Understanding the Green Homes Grant

green homes grant - insulation installation

East Midlands Roofing Solutions are now offering insulation services, which can be attained through the UK government’s Green Homes Grant.

If you have never heard of this initiative, don’t worry as we will explain everything you need to know in this blog.

Green Homes Grants Explained

The Green Homes Grant provides funding for homeowners to make energy-efficient home improvements, which help to reduce heating bills.

The government will provide two-thirds of funding up to £5000 (or £10,000 for low-income homes) to help make green home improvements, as long as you are eligible. The homeowner or landlord needs to pay the other third.

This initiative was launched in September 2020 and runs until 31st March 2022, with eligible improvements including new heat pumps and the installation of new insulations. Please note, this does not mean you can pick and choose what improvements you want.

The grant is divided into two categories –

Primary Home Improvements – These measures are classed as the home improvements which will impact most on your home’s energy efficiency

Secondary Home Improvements – Once you have applied for, and redeemed your primary voucher you are able to apply for a secondary measure, as long as you have money remaining on the voucher. The contribution for a secondary measure is capped at the same amount provided in relation to the primary measures.

While homeowners and landlords are eligible, new build domestic properties and non-domestic properties such as shops and offices are not.
