Investing in a period building can sometimes have you concerned over how many upgrades you might need to make, or how many you can make if the building is listed. The good news is that new roofs for period buildings can look just as attractive as the original.
Over the years many period buildings have been updated, losing a significant amount of their original charm. For the most part, this has been done to help improve the energy efficiency of the building, or to replaced a damaged roof on a budget. With East Midlands Roofing Solutions, this need not be the case.
Whether you are looking to restore your building to its former glory and remove the modern roof it has or you are looking for a direct replacement, our team of experts are skilled in getting your roof to the perfect specifications for the building period style!
Our team have experience with a range of different styles of roofs across many different architectural designs, including Georgian, Victorian, Gothic and Edwardian. Not to mention a range of building aside from houses, including churches.
Listed Building Roofs
The general ruling here in the UK is that you can make appropriate repairs to the roofing of a listed building, providing that you are using matching materials. However, as many listed buildings are older, it is becoming increasingly difficult to match materials like-for-like, and too many repairs to a roof can cause more issues than they can do good. This means that a new roof may be required.
To ensure that you can install a new roof on your listed building you will need to contact your local authority. If you are changing the roof like-for-like there will be very little to no resistance as you will essentially be undertaking restoration works. If you are planning to alter, no matter how slight, the design or structure of the roof, such as pitch, height or materials, you will need to apply for planning permission. This will then be considered and may or may not be accepted.
Here at East Midlands Roofing Solutions, we are able to match your current roof in most cases, allowing you to maintain the same appearance with the added benefits of a new roof.
